Angels and Demons, the Da Vinci Code’s Sequel
The Da Vinci Code, one of the most controversial movies, didn’t receive good reviews from critics, was banned in many countries such as India and the Philippines, had protestors marching in front of theaters and angered many Christian leaders who asked their followers to boycott the movie. But that didn’t stop it from earning $224 million worldwide on its opening weekend and become the highest grossing movie of 2006 with $750 million.
The movie is based on the best selling novel, The Da Vinci Code, written by Dan Brown â he sold the movie rights at $6,000,000 â was directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, How The Grinch Stole Christmas) and written by Akiva Goldsman (I, Robot, Cinderella Man). It stars Tom Hanks as Dr. Robert Langdon and Audrey Tautou as Agent Sophie Neveu. In short, the story states that Jesus Christ â I’m talking about the son of God, the one who died on the cross then resurrected three days later, just in case you were wondering – was married to Mary Magdalene – the former prostitute – and that they had a child together and that Sophie Neveu is the last descent from that union. This means that the Holy Grail is not a chalice but Jesus and Mary Magdalene’s bloodline. That’s enough to stir up Christians and churches around the world. Don’t you think? Certain countries requested that Sony puts a disclaimer at the beginning stating that the story was fiction but they declined.
Two years later, the heat has quite reduce as people have moved on and are more into movies such as Quantum Of Solace, Eagle Eyes, High School Musical 3 and Madagascar 2. But not for long; get ready for The Da Vinci Code’s sequel: Angels And Demons, scheduled to be released on May 19th 2009. “It tells the story of Langdon’s’ brush with a shadowy secret society, the Illuminati, and his frantic quest for the worlds most powerful energy source, in the company of a beautiful Italian physicist whose father, a brilliant physicist, has been murdered.”
Â
The movie, also based on a book with similar title written by Dan Brown, was directed by Ron Howard and written by Akiva Goldsman. Tom Hanks comes back as Dr. Robert Langdon. He is joined by Ayelet Zurer as Victoria Vetra and Ewan McGregor as Carlo Ventresca. And no, Sophie Neveu doesn’t come back. Too bad, I wonder if she figured out how to turn water to wine or walk on it.
Â
Normally, the book Angels And Demons (2000) was published before The Da Vinci Code (2003), but Ron Howard decided to make it as a sequel rather than a prequel.
Even tough the movie is still half a year from theaters, it will definitely create as much controversies as its predecessor. The Vatican refused to give Ron Howard access to Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria for the filming. According to TheTelegraph.co.uk Father Marco Fibbi, a spokesman, stated “Usually we read the script but in this case it wasn’t necessary. Just the name Dan Brown was enough.” â Isn’t forgiveness one of Christianity’s pillars? – The churches had to be recreated in soundstages.

The Angels and Demons Walk in Rome
Walking in Italy doesn’t usually conjure up images of a peaceful city break sauntering around the sites of Rome, but there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be the case. The term ‘flaneuring’ was coined by Charles Baudelaire in 1917 and is defined as’ a person who walks a city in order to experience it’. With ancient history and Roman architecture around almost every corner in Rome, there has never been a more apt city to ‘flaneur’.
An ‘Angels and Demons’ themed walk is a beautiful and unique way to see the main sites of Rome and whilst many tour companies offer themed tours there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go it alone.
Earth
The first stop on our walk in Italy is the Church of Santa Maria Del Popolo, a notable Augustinian Church which stands to the north side of the Piazza Del Popolo. The church has five smaller chapels located inside and the most notable of these is The Chigi Chapel. This features in ‘Angels and Demons’ as the element of earth and here the statue of Habakkuk and the Angel point out the path of illumination. The skeleton cupermiento covers the subterranean crypt, and a demon’s hole where the first Cardinal is found murdered inside the book.
Air
The second element mentioned in ‘Angels and Demon’s’ is air and the next stop on our walk in Italy is St. Peter’s Church and square.
The site is famous for being the largest Christian church in the world and the lavish piazza commissioned by Bernini has the effect of humbling all those that visit it. The church features the beautiful Papal altar with a golden coffer surrounded by ninety-nine glowing oil lamps which are said to burn until the end of time.
Fire
The fourth Cardinal in the book is hung by incensor cables and burnt alive in the Santa Maria della Vittoria, the next stop on our walk in Italy. This church is notable for featuring the beautiful and astonishing Ecstasy of St. Teresa, which was also designed by Bernini. At the time the statue was built it was described as the “most unfit ornament to be placed in a Christian Church’ and deemed pornographic.
Water
The beautiful and intricately designed Fountain of Four Waters located at Piazza Navona is the final stop on your Angels and Demons tour. The piazza was once a stadium built by order of Emperor Domitian, but is now one of the most peculiar squares you’ll encounter on a walk in Italy. In the middle of the piazza is Bernini’s tribute to water with the four male figures portraying the four continents where the Catholic Religion had spread at the time the fountain was commissioned in 1650, and, of course, the four most important rivers of the Old World: the Rio della Plata, the Nile, Ganges and Danube.
In the film these locations make up the ‘Four Altars of Science’ and are believed to hold the key to the meeting place of the Illuminati. However, even if you’re not a fan of Dan Brown’s books these sites should be experienced, even if for nothing other than the sheer beauty of their ancient architecture.

Angels and Demons DVD-THE DAVINCI CODE PART 2
Angels and Demons. How could you go wrong with a movie with a name like that. It does sound so Gothic. It is steeped in history, which for art history fans makes watching it for that reason alone worth while. Direction is again by Ron Howard and the lead is Tom Hanks, like the last one. The second part of the DaVinci code is very exciting.
Robert Langdon, The same character that Tom Hanks played in the last movie, is going full speed again. For a Harvard religious expert, his life is certainly exciting. I guess he must be used to it since his recent escapades in the previous movie. He and Vittoria Vetra, hello hot scientist, take on the Illuminati. It turns into some high speed action.
The Davinci Code was a great movie that had people thinking about some new ideas. This new movie is incredible. It gets you all worked up with the suspenseful and complicated stuff that is going on. You watch it and you think that there is a possibility to all of this actually happening. You get intrigue and some grisly murder as well.
If you were a fan of the book like me you were probably annoyed by them cutting out parts of the book when they made it. We know it’s necessary, they can’t put everything in there for times sake. It is still a bit of a drag, but that is what you have to accept if you want to see an awesome book turn into an incredible movie. And it was really good. It did the book justice and even stayed very close to the whole line of the tale. It also gave you some needed closure from the first movie.
Tom Hanks looked great in this film as compared to the DaVinci Code where he had that awful hair thing going on. In this film we saw Hanks looking a bit more mature, but the look worked really well for him. The entire cast was excellent as well as the film itself, but an extra special comment goes to Ewan McGregor who took on his role of Camerlengo with much substance and depth and of course he is always nice to watch anyway. If you want to see an excellent movie the purchase the Angels and Demons DVD, with Hanks, McGregor and Howard, you know you will be in for a treat.
Tom Hanks is so good in the Angels and Demons DVD. You get a fabulous underground tour of ancient places and loads of action in the Angels and Demons DVD.
Angels and Demons DVD-More Exciting Than The First

This is an action packed, face paced movie packed full of intrigue and suspense. A mix of mystery and suspense coupled with crime and action sequences make this film a bit more entertaining then its predecessor The Davinci Code.
If you were a fan of the book like me you were probably annoyed by them cutting out parts of the book when they made it. We know it’s necessary, they can’t put everything in there for times sake. This movie was so fun for me. I have an art history background, so just watching everything behind the scenes was a huge treat. All those ancient churches and sculptures, even the picturesque alleyways were lovely to see. I love the storyline behind it too. A historical mystery can’t be beat as far as I’m concerned. It doesn’t hurt that it had a master, Tom Hanks, at the wheel. And, don’t forget the influence of Ron Howard was very clear as well.
The Angels and Demons DVD makes a great movie out of an fascinating tale. You get action, mystery, and Tom Hanks in the Angels and Demons DVD. What a package!
