ORNE LIBRARY | SPECIAL
COLLECTIONS
"The Exibit Museum is one of the two original college
buildings. It's collection seems to consist largely of trinkets that Orne
acquired in his Carribean travels. Nearly two hundred years later, even
these can be of interest. By special request in his will, museaum admission
is free to all. After a fire in early 1902, theuppper part of the building
required restoration and was rebuilt in stone." Atunes, 23.
Volumes in this part of the Orne Library are under special supervision
of the staff and are protected from fire, theft, and human carelessness.
Access to the Special Collections area of the Library are under permission
of the administrators and all requests of works contained in the special
collections must be asked for by specific title of tome or work. Professors
always have first call on anything held in the collections.
Exibits range from dinosaur skeltons to fossil records from
early New England. The theme to the Museum is early natural history and
may soon be expanding its halls to include depictions and fossils of early
man untampered as found in nature.

Expedition findings that the University considers to contravercial for
public display are placed within the Vault.
The Vault contains items either purchased or donated to
MU. Most of these artifacts contain high significance in their relative
areas and some are even rumored to hold strange dweomors. There held
